Response to American Rescue Plan Act
As we mark the one year milestone of COVID-19 being declared a pandemic, we have many reasons to feel optimistic about the near future. Vaccines are becoming more widely available, and President Biden announced last night that all adults should be eligible for a vaccine by May 1st. Just as exciting is the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act, which will infuse $39 billion dollars into child care across the country, with nearly $4 billion expected to come to California.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, advocates across the nation have called a $50 billion dollar investment into child care. With President Biden's signature yesterday, we have finally reached that milestone over the three COVID-19 stimulus bills. This investment is imperative to ensure our child care infrastructure remains whole. This funding will also help more families afford the child care they need. We are proud of this accomplishment and thankful for all the advocates, and the collective efforts of everyone who have worked this year to make it a reality.
