Technology Assistant
Full-time: 37.5 hours / week, Monday through Friday
$40,000 to $45,000/year DOE
Benefits Include: Health and Dental Insurance

About the role:

The Technology Assistant assists the Network’s 25-person staff with simple IT issues, technology procurement & set-up, and website updates. You’ll work out of the main San Francisco office to support our staff who work in the office as well as those who work remotely throughout California.

The California Child Care Resource & Referral Network works to make quality child care affordable and accessible for all families in California. We work to address this through several methods: research, public policy, family services, child care provider services, and working with our network of member non-profit agencies throughout the state. The Technology Assistant supports the Database Manager and IT consultant in order to continuously improve the office environment for increased productivity.

About you:

You are a mission-driven person who is comfortable troubleshooting computer issues. You have technical aptitude and enjoy assisting others. You have excellent communication skills and keep up-to-date on the latest developments and trends in the industry. You understand that it takes some folks more training than others to grasp new software, and have the patience to walk people of all capabilities through the necessary training to keep the office moving. You're a reliable worker and comfortable working with minimal supervision.

What you’ll work on:

IT Administration
  • Keeping computers & software updated
  • Support remote-based IT consultant with troubleshooting software & hardware issues
  • Make recommendations for purchasing computer equipment and software
  • Install and maintain hardware
Website Maintenance

This position serves as webmaster for the organization website: The Technology Assistant is responsible for maintaining this website including:

  • Coordination with program staff to obtain site content
  • Editing & publishing content provided by program staff
  • Making recommendations to management about the website structure & content
Office Equipment Procurement

The Technology Assistant is responsible for the procurement and maintenance of office equipment to assure that appropriate equipment is available and functioning to meet the needs of the agency. This includes:

  • Maintenance of the copy machine
  • Maintenance of the postage meter
  • Maintenance of the phone/voice mail systems
  • Coordination between equipment vendors and agency
  • Work with Fiscal Office staff in procurement of equipment


  • Advanced computing skills
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Knowledge of various programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to communicate technical procedures and information with patience to non-technical persons in person, over email, and on the phone
  • Ability to lean/crawl behind and underneath desks, stands, and equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds such as computers
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized

Nice to have:

  • Experience with website management
  • Experience using social media platforms
  • Experience using webinar and video-conferencing technology
  • Interest in child care / human services
